A number of informant-administered and direct cognitive screening instruments were reviewed. Of these only one informant-administered screening measure, the Dementia Questionnaire for People with Learning Disabilities (formerly known as the DMR), was found to a promising dementia screening tool for individuals with intellectual disability. However, the results must be interpreted with caution as the instrument had good specificity, but sensitivity varied. Further research is warranted.
