This systematic review compares the effects of cognitive stimulation (e.g., intense multisensory stimulation, formalized non-intensive stimulation, sensory regulation programs) to standard rehabilitation treatments on a variety of outcomes (i.e., duration of unconsciousness, level of consciousness, level of cognitive functioning, functional outcomes, adverse effects) in individuals in a coma or vegetative state due to a non-traumatic or traumatic brain injury (TBI).
