This systematic review examines the diagnostic accuracy of the Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) for detecting dementia in secondary care settings. Although speech-language pathologists do not diagnose dementia, the findings may be applicable when screening individuals for cognitive impairments.

Findings demonstrated that the Informant Questionnaire on Cognitive Decline in the Elderly (IQCODE) demonstrated sensitivity of 0.91 (ranging .71-1.0), specificity of 0.66 (ranging .39-.88), overall positive likelihood ratio of 2.7, and negative likelihood ratio of 0.14 for detection of dementia in secondary care settings. The review noted limitations regarding the totality of data reported, heterogeneity between versions and thresholds of the IQCODE utilized and characteristics and setting of the individuals evaluated. Further research is warranted to determine the applicability and usefulness of this test with this population in various settings.
