This systematic review examines the diagnostic accuracy of the Mini-Cog as a screening tool for diagnosing Alzheimer's disease and related dementias. Although speech-language pathologists do not diagnose dementia, the findings may be applicable when screening individuals for cognitive impairments.

The sensitivity and specificity of the Min-Cog test varied between .76 to 1.00 and .27 to .85 respectively. Given the small number of studies (n=4), the methodological limitations, and the varied estimates in sensitivity and specificity, further research is needed to determine whether the Min-Cog test has sufficient diagnostic accuracy to be a useful screening test for identifying individuals with Alzheimer's disease or related dementias.
