Interventions such as a 3D emotion system, socially assistive robots, immersive virtual reality, and use of avatars led to positive social behavior and improved social-emotional competence.

Virtual reality was effective to improve cognitive and executive function skills through prompting, interactive devices, and realistic virtual environments. Virtual reality and virtual worlds were also successfully used to teach community living skills such as navigating, street crossing, and shopping.
