For individuals with dementia or MCI, three studies investigating the use of IVR reported mixed effects on cognitive abilities. Based on the limited research available, the authors "are unable to conclude whether the use of IVR for improving cognitive function in dementia, and MCI is effective" (p. e508). Further research on the efficacy of IVR to improve cognitive abilities in individuals with dementia and MCI is needed.
