One randomized controlled trial and three case series studies were found. Interventions were varied, including botulinum toxin injection, neuromuscular electrical stimulation, intraluminal electrical pharyngeal stimulation, and vagal nerve stimulation. No studies were found employing behavioral interventions, e.g., "muscle strengthening exercises or training in compensatory strategies for safer swallowing" (p. 616). Overall, evidence was limited and quality was low for dysphagia intervention in MS, necessitating further clinical research.
