The Health Utilities Index Mark 3 (HUI3) appeared to be a promising generic, preference-based health-related quality of life (HRQoL) measure, but, due to psychometric development without speech and language difficulties (SaLD) means in adult populations, the HUI3 may lack the sensitivity and the specificity to measure quality of life in children and adolescents with speech and language difficulties. Condition-specific measures (e.g. Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory) may be more appropriate to capture small SaLD-related issues or changes after intervention.
