This meta-analysis investigates the effects of acupuncture and language rehabilitation training (i.e., methods for articulation training such as pronunciation training, speech discrimination, intonation, rhythm, and speed training) on measures of dysarthria in individuals post-stroke. Some of the treatments covered in this article fall outside the scope of practice of a speech-language pathologist, and as such, are not discussed in this summary.

<div>Regarding the recovery of speech function in adults with post-stroke dysarthria, combined treatments of language rehabilitation training and acupuncture (traditional, body, or scalp) had a superior effect to language rehabilitation training alone (mean difference = 5.52). There were mixed findings for direct comparisons of speech therapy and acupuncture.</div>
