Views about stuttering are changing. As the field increasingly comes to see stuttering as an example of neurodiversity, many clinicians are left wondering if and how they can help young children who stutter. This webinar will provide an updated view of stuttering intervention and describe a comprehensive, stutter-affirming approach for children ages 2½ to 6. The webinar will cover less- and more-direct aspects of intervention, focusing on helping caregivers create a supportive communication environment, helping children speak more easily, and helping everyone in a child’s life understand and accept stuttering.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • Compare your current thoughts about early childhood stuttering to modern, neurodiversity-affirming views
  • Communicate to children that it is okay to stutter
  • Explain to parents and caregivers that it is okay to talk openly about stuttering, even with young children
  • Explain changes to timing and tension that can help children speak and stutter more easily
