This webinar will share strategies and insights for recognizing an individual’s unique personal and cultural histories and circumstances when working with individuals with communication disorders. The course will discuss common counseling challenges and evidence-based strategies you can use to individualize sessions and integrate patients’ backgrounds, values, beliefs, and communication styles into your work. This session will be a blend of real-world clinical examples and actionable tips that you can use to improve patient trust, engagement, and outcomes.

Presenter Information

Lipika Sarangi, PhD, is an assistant professor in audiology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. She completed her PhD and postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Memphis and has 7 years of audiology clinical experience in India. Her long-term research seeks to develop and validate individualized patient-centered auditory rehabilitation protocols to improve real-world success with hearing aids in adults in their daily lives. She is particularly interested in identifying the impacts of hearing aid technology as well as patient characteristics (self-efficacy, personality, emotion, etc.) on hearing aid success. In addition to continuing her research endeavors, she also teaches amplification, counseling in audiology, and research methods and evidence-based practice.
