Learn more about the exceptional value of the ASHA Learning Pass

Two big challenges in evaluating dual language learners with reading disorders are determining (1) the best testing tools and (2) the language for assessment. This webinar explores specific components of a reading assessment for English-Spanish bilinguals and shares interventions that can facilitate reading across languages. While the course focuses primarily on Spanish and English learners, speaker Elizabeth Ijalba includes examples from other languages and the types of reading difficulties that students experience.

Learning Outcomes
You will be able to:

  • Determine the language(s) of assessment for language and reading for individual students
  • Determine the components of a reading assessment in individual dual-language learners
  • Conduct a differential diagnosis for language and reading in individual dual-language learners

Course Review

"The course was very well-organized and presented clearly. The statistical information was very interesting and pertinent to the topic. A lot of valuable information was included in a strategic, well-sequenced manner without being overwhelming. Of particular interest to me was the summary of the variables to consider in dual-language learners."
