Speech-language
pathologists in early intervention who support families of children with both
language and social-emotional delays face questions like: How do I help parents
to recognize their child's needs? How do I understand the impact of parent
mental health on child development? What are some of the ways that speech and
language skills and social-emotional development overlap? This webinar
addresses these types of questions by exploring evidence-based strategies for
supporting social-emotional skill development, examining the impact of grief
and trauma on parent engagement and language, explaining attachment styles, and
sharing strategies for building parent capacity.

Course Reviews
"I absolutely loved this course. I really appreciated the deep dive into temperament and attachment
styles and their relation to communication. I feel inspired and more prepared to start conversations with
families around this topic in order to promote their child's communication."
"I loved seeing how some aspects of your work as a social worker relate directly to communication and
the work of SLPs. I also found there to be a lot of theoretical information that relates to issues we
encounter every day as professionals. It felt like a good refresher on many aspects, while also still
including some new information or a different perspective on previous knowledge."
"Naomi Grinney clearly explained all concepts. She explained all definitions in great details. She gave
very meaningful and pragmatic suggestions for how a speech pathologist can facilitate social-emotional
and communication development. All graphs were very informative. I especially liked how Naomi
Grinney spoke about the temperament characteristics of her four children. Her personal examples were
really helpful and interesting."
